Foreign media news on April 6: smelting data jointly released by satellite monitoring company savant and broker MAREX showed that although the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continued, global nickel smelting activities accelerated in March, including Russia, the main producing country.
The two institutions launched a satellite analysis service system, earth-i, in 2019, which specializes in geospatial data. The smelters they track account for 90% of global nickel and copper production, sell data to fund managers, traders and miners, and release the monthly index of global copper smelter activities free of charge.
A statement issued by MAREX and savant said that Russian nickel production was not affected. Russia accounts for about 10% of the global nickel supply. The production of pobuzhskiy, the only ferronickel producer in Ukraine, was interrupted, but the production of norrisk nickel in Russia's Nadezhda smelter was not interrupted.
The global nickel dispersion index rose to 47.3 in March from 41.6 in February. According to the dispersion index of smelting activities, 50 indicates that the operation of the smelter is at the average level in the past 12 months.
China's nickel pig iron (NPI) price index rebounded to 55.4 in March from 37.8 in February, as factories resumed production after the Winter Olympics. Nickel pig iron is a kind of refined nickel substitute with low nickel content.
