(1) On the production of deoxidizer. In steelmaking production, especially in converter steelmaking, when blowing oxygen to molten iron (containing about 4% carbon) to reduce carbon and removing harmful impurities of phosphorus and sulfur in molten iron, there will be peroxidation phenomenon in the process of transforming molten iron into molten steel (containing less than 2% carbon or so called molten steel), and the molten steel contains excessive oxygen. Therefore, in the steelmaking process (molten steel process) to add a certain amount of oxygen affinity strong active elements, this process is called deoxidation. The ferroalloy used is called deoxidizer. Commonly used elements are Si, Ca, Ba, Al, etc., the deoxidizing agent often used silicon calcium, silicon calcium barium, silicon barium, silicon aluminum, silicon aluminum manganese and other ferroalloys.
(2) Alloys in steelmaking production. Alloying elements in alloy steels are realized by adding ferroalloys. Ferroalloys used to adjust alloying elements in steel are called alloying agents for steelmaking. The commonly used elements are Si, Mn, Cr, W, V, Ti, Nb, Ni, Al and so on. The commonly used alloys are: ferrosilicate, ferromanganese, ferromanganese, ferro-chrome, silicon chromium, ferro-tungsten, ferro-vanadium, ferro-titanium, ferro-nickel, ferro-niobium, ferro-aluminum, ferro-manganese and so on.
(3) The foundry inoculant, spheroidizing agent. In the casting process, before pouring, add some Fe alloy containing the right amount of Re(the general name of rare earth elements), Mg, Ca, Ba, Si and other elements, these elements can make the carbon in cast iron water as soon as possible graphitization and uniform dispersion, and have the effect of desulphurization to gas, phosphorus. Improve the mechanical strength and toughness of the casting. Commonly used ferroalloys are rare earth silicon calcium magnesium and rare earth ferrosilicon, ferrosilicon magnesium (that is, spheroidizing agent), low barium calcium ferrosilicon (that is, inoculant), etc.
